Fayette County is one of the three original Kentucky counties established in 1780, twelve years before Kentucky became the fifteenth state. Fayette County is named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette. The Lexington city government and Fayette county government merged January 1, 1974 to form the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government. |
