Susan began her public service in January, 1986, when she started her first career with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. She worked nine months in the Div. of Planning, five and a half years with the Mayor's Office of Economic Development, and twenty-one years with the Council Clerk's Office for a total of over twenty-seven years. Susan retired in 2013, and in 2014, decided to run for the 4th District Urban County Council seat. She was successful in her election and served four terms (eight years) as the 4th District Councilwoman. During that time, Susan served on ten boards and commissions, as well as the Urban County Council's Planning & Public Safety and Budget, Finance & Economic Development Committees. She was elected by her colleagues as a first-term Councilmember to chair the General Government & Social Services Committee and completed three additional terms as Chair of that committee. She cultivated strong constituent relations and community partnerships with public meetings, community events, and robust feedback.

Susan continues her public service as the Fayette County Clerk appointee, being sworn in on February 1, 2023. She will carry out the duties with the utmost integrity and looks forward to working inclusively with everyone.
